Maple Hills Council Adopts its 2025 Budget
Irishtown, NB – The local government of Maple Hills has officially approved its operating budget for 2025. The $6.2 million budget was adopted during a Special Council meeting held in Council Chambers on December 3, 2024.
New for 2025
Beginning in 2025, the local government of Maple Hills will assume the administration and payment of the Provincial Policing Service Agreement (PPSA). Previously, the cost of RCMP services was included under the Provincial Tax Rate, but starting next year, it will be reflected as part of the Local Tax Rate. Notably, this change does not increase the amount residents pay for policing services; it is simply a redistribution of funds already being collected.
Local Tax Rates for 2025
Excluding the assumption of policing costs, residents in Maple Hills’ five taxation areas will experience a slight reduction in local tax rates, averaging 2.62%. This decrease was achieved thanks to an 11.4% increase in the local government’s tax base assessment, which has allowed the rural community to maintain service levels consistent with those of 2024.
“Council is happy that we were able to adopt a budget that will not see an increase to the tax rate for residents,” says Erica Warren, Mayor of Maple Hills. “We feel this is great news for everyone in the community. Even though things are getting more expensive, the budget focuses on being smart with how we spend, cutting unnecessary costs, and finding savings where possible. This means we can keep tax rates steady while still taking care of what is important, the residents of Maple Hills.
We are hopeful that we have been able to communicate the changes with regard to the policing services in a way that makes sense to the residents. It's important for residents to understand their tax bills and how the budget impacts them, as we work to keep things affordable despite rising costs. Our goal is to balance affordability with investment in the services that benefit everyone.”
More details about the 2025 budget will be available on the rural community’s website at the beginning of 2025.
